   An ordinary Wednesday in the shop, until a woman comes in for a book she has wanted for two years.

   A letter arrives in a hand Margot has seen once before, sealed in green wax she cannot read. And an old friend calls at the shop, asking the question behind the question.

   Tea at Helena's, and the thing that has been all around Margot since the first afternoon is given a shape, and a sign. After Sunday she may choose, or not.
