The Door
What passes within does not pass without.
A principle of discretion, and the first a keeper learns. What is said and seen and done in the company of keepers is kept by the company that held it.
Confidences are not currency. The trust given at a table is not carried into the street. A keeper who speaks loosely finds others speaking less in their presence, and learns the lesson without anyone having to teach it.
It is the foundational tenet. It is also the one most often broken, and the Code has long memories for both.
